Understanding High Intensity Support and How the Right Provider Makes a Real Difference

If you or someone you care about needs high care support, you’re probably carrying a lot on your shoulders. It’s not just about finding someone qualified. It’s about finding the right people who get it, who take the time to understand your daily routine, your health needs and the little things that make you feel like yourself.

We know that complex disability care isn’t just a checklist of medical tasks. It’s about real connection, clear communication and support that actually fits into your life.

At Culture Connex, we offer high intensity supports with consistency, empathy and respect. No scripts. No box-ticking. Just a team that shows up the right way and sticks with you through it all.

This guide walks you through what complex care really means, what good support should look like and how we approach it with heart, skill and honesty, every step of the way.

What Is Complex Disability Care?

Complex care refers to the supports provided to people with high or multiple support needs. This may include medical, behavioural or physical requirements that need specialised training, monitoring and experience.

In an NDIS context, it often includes high intensity supports such as:

But complexity isn’t just about the type of support. It’s also about the person. Their routine, communication style, sensory needs and living environment all shape the way care should be delivered. At Culture Connex, we take the time to understand the whole picture, not just what’s written in a care plan. We want each person to feel safe, respected and supported in a way that makes sense for their life.

What Makes a Good Complex Care Provider?

Complex care needs a provider who can handle both the technical and the human side of support. Families need to trust that the team has the right systems in place, is trained to respond under pressure and can communicate clearly with everyone involved.

Here’s what we believe sets a good provider apart:

NDIS provider with lived experience, Culture Connex Real experience delivering high intensity care

NDIS provider with lived experience, Culture Connex Strong organisational systems that keep things running smoothly

NDIS provider with lived experience, Culture Connex Accountability to the person receiving support and their chosen circle

We prioritise consistency, reliability and honest relationships. Our staff are trained to follow clinical protocols, but they’re also selected for how they make people feel. That means listening, adjusting and showing up in a way that suits the person being supported.

Examples of Complex Care Needs We Support

Our team provides complex care for people with a wide range of needs across New South Wales and beyond. Here are just a few of the areas we support, often in combination:

Goals Matter, Even the Small Ones

When someone lives with high care needs, their goals can sometimes be overlooked. But we believe everyone deserves to experience moments of joy, purpose and progress, whatever that looks like for them.

We work with people to set and reach goals that feel meaningful. That could be building confidence with meal prep, reconnecting with a local community group, starting a creative project at home or exploring other opportunities outside of the home.

Some of the achievements we’ve helped support include:

NDIS provider with lived experience, Culture ConnexLearning new skills through hobby-based support

NDIS provider with lived experience, Culture Connex Getting involved in sports for physical and social benefits

NDIS provider with lived experience, Culture Connex Using music, painting or writing as forms of expression

NDIS provider with lived experience, Culture Connex Exploring new places with the right transport and care

NDIS provider with lived experience, Culture Connex Strengthening cultural or community connections

Our approach is support should fit the person, not forcing them to fit the support. It’s about creating care that’s shaped around who they are and what matters most to them in different moments of their live.

Support Coordination That Actually Helps

Managing an NDIS plan can feel overwhelming, especially if you or a loved one has complex needs. There’s a lot to navigate, and it’s not always clear where to start.

Our Support Coordinators take the pressure off by helping you understand your funding, find the right services and make informed choices. We stay with you throughout your plan, not just at the beginning.

Lived Experience That Shapes Real Support

Culture Connex was founded by Jake Briggs, a proud person with disability who has experienced the realities of the support system firsthand. That insight has shaped our values, our approach and the way we show up for the people we work with.

Jake’s lived experience isn’t a side note. It influences how we train our team, design our services and connect with participants and families. His podcast Keep Rolling with Jake Briggs brings together powerful voices from across the disability community and reminds us to keep focused on what matters most: real people, real needs and real connection.

We don’t just provide care. We build relationships grounded in trust, honesty and consistency. We take the time to understand each person’s life, listen without assumptions and offer support that fits into the way they want to live.
